ReelShort vs DramaBox: which one fits you?
Short answer
ReelShort and DramaBox are the two apps Sensor Tower names in its Q1 2025 revenue figures (about $130 million and $120 million). On the US App Store (read October 2, 2026), ReelShort is rated 13+ with 4.7 from 504K ratings and a $19.99 subscription it says is valid for 7 days. DramaBox is rated 18+ with 4.8 from 867K ratings and Membership prices of $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 with no period stated. ReelShort's website plays episodes in the browser; DramaBox's website is a catalog. We don't name a winner: the right pick depends on who is watching and where.
This page names no winner: both are real, large, paid apps, and the question is which one fits how you watch and who shares your phone.
Everything below comes from official sources we read ourselves: the US App Store listings (October 2, 2026), the Italian listings (September 30, 2026), ReelShort's website and terms (October 6, 2026), DramaBox's website (October 6, 2026) and Sensor Tower's market report. Where a source is silent, we say so.

Price and billing period
ReelShort's listing names its one subscription at $19.99 and describes it as valid for 7 days, renewing automatically and billed weekly. You can read the period before you ever open the app. Its one-time purchases run $4.99, $9.99, $14.99, $19.99, $24.99 and $29.99.
DramaBox lists a Membership at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 and special offers at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99. The listing says the Membership renews unless you switch off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends, but it never says how long a period is. A $5.99 plan that lasts a week and one that lasts a month are very different deals, and the listing alone can't tell you which you're looking at.
So the lower DramaBox entry price is real on paper, but it isn't comparable to ReelShort's $19.99 until you see the period on DramaBox's purchase sheet.
What a ReelShort episode costs on the website
ReelShort's website shows what coins buy, which the App Store doesn't. On the series we opened (Don't Miss Me When I'm Gone, 63 episodes), each locked episode cost 60 coins. The web store sold 315 coins (300 plus 15 bonus) for $2.99 and 1,100 coins for $9.99. That works out to about $0.60 and about $0.55 an episode. The website's Weekly VIP was $9.99 for the first week, then $19.99 a week. We have no matching per-episode figure for DramaBox, because neither its listing nor its website states one.
Who the apps are rated for
If a teenager shares the phone, this row matters more than any price.
The US App Store rates ReelShort 13+ and DramaBox 18+. In Italy the ratings are 12+ and 17+. ReelShort's own terms of use go further than its store rating: they say the service is not for users under 18. So by their own documents, neither app is aimed at a 15-year-old.
Whatever you decide, put a purchase gate on the phone first. Our guide to whether short drama apps are safe has the iPhone and Android steps.
Watching on a computer
ReelShort plays in a desktop browser. On October 6, 2026, its website played episodes 1 to 13 of the series we opened, with subtitles in 14 languages, and sold VIP and coins directly. A plan bought there is billed by Crazy Maple Studio to your card, so it won't show up in your iPhone or Google Play subscriptions.
DramaBox's website, read the same day, lists titles, episode counts and synopses with links to download the app. Nothing on it says episodes play in the browser, so plan on a phone or tablet. Our list of places to watch short dramas online covers the other apps with a web player.
Size and languages
Both apps are big. DramaBox has the larger rating pool, 867K against 504K, and ReelShort has more interface languages, 22 against 16. Both include Italian, though menus aren't dubbing: check the player on a free episode.
Sensor Tower puts ReelShort at about $490 million in cumulative in-app revenue and DramaBox at about $450 million, as of its July 2025 report. Both are established businesses; neither figure says which catalog has your story.
Pick ReelShort if...
- You want to know the billing period before you pay. It is printed on the listing: 7 days.
- You'd like to watch on a laptop. The website plays episodes and shows the coin price of each locked one.
- You want a free route that's written down. The Italian listing describes ads and daily bonuses instead of buying coins.
- You need more interface languages. 22 against 16.
- You like choosing the plot. The listing advertises interactive stories where you decide what happens next.
Pick DramaBox if...
- You weigh the size of the rating pool. 867K is the most US App Store ratings among the apps we track.
- You only watch on a phone or tablet. You won't miss a web player you'd never use.
- You want the smallest listed Membership price. $5.99 is on the listing, but read the period on the purchase sheet before you treat it as cheap.
- Every viewer is an adult. The 18+ store rating removes the question of whether a teenager should be on it.
What we couldn't verify
We did not read DramaBox's terms of use, so we can't describe its contract or refund rules. Neither listing states how many episodes are free per series; that varies and is shown in the app. ReelShort reviews mention coins earned from ads expiring, but the official description doesn't say so. For the full picture on each, read our ReelShort review and DramaBox review.
A third option: TotalShort (our app)
TotalShort is ours, so read this as a disclosure as much as a suggestion. It is a different kind of app from both: Italian short drama series, vertical one-minute episodes, made with AI and labeled "AI series" on every title. The first 8 episodes of every series are free, plus 1 free episode a day per series. Coins never expire, and nothing unlocks without your confirmation. You start as a guest, with no sign-up.
In euro, an episode is 30 coins (€0.30), and finishing a 12-episode series after the 8 free ones takes 4 × 30 = 120 coins, or €1.20. VIP is €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year, billed by Google Play, with no free trial that turns into a charge.
The limits are real. There are six series, not thousands. There are no live actors. The audio is Italian with subtitles in 13 languages, including English and Spanish, and some series also have English audio. It's on Android only for now: get TotalShort on Google Play, with the iPhone version coming soon. It doesn't play in a web browser, and it's brand new, so it has no public rating yet. See it next to the rest in our ranking or the full comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Is ReelShort or DramaBox better?
Neither is better across the board, and we won't pretend to rank them on taste. They differ on facts you can check: ReelShort is rated 13+, states a 7-day subscription period and plays on its website; DramaBox is rated 18+, has more ratings (867K) and lists a lower Membership price without saying how long it lasts. Decide on who is watching and where, then compare the price on the purchase sheet.
Which is cheaper, ReelShort or DramaBox?
On paper, DramaBox's listing starts lower: a Membership at $5.99 against ReelShort's $19.99 subscription (US App Store, October 2, 2026). But DramaBox doesn't print the billing period, so you can't compare the two until you see it on the purchase sheet. ReelShort's website also sells a first week of VIP at $9.99, then $19.99 a week. Trust the payment screen over any list, this one included.
Can I watch ReelShort and DramaBox on a computer?
ReelShort, yes: its website played episodes 1 to 13 free on the series we opened on October 6, 2026, then charged 60 coins an episode. DramaBox's website, read the same day, is a catalog with links to the app and doesn't say episodes play in the browser. If you subscribe on ReelShort's website, remember that plan is cancelled with ReelShort, not with Apple or Google.
Are ReelShort and DramaBox OK for teenagers?
The US App Store rates ReelShort 13+ and DramaBox 18+ (12+ and 17+ in Italy). ReelShort's terms of use say the service is not for users under 18, which is stricter than its store rating. If a teenager uses either, set purchase approval on the phone first: Screen Time on iPhone, purchase verification or Family Link on Android. Spending is the risk you can control most easily.
Do ReelShort and DramaBox have Italian?
Both list Italian among their interface languages: ReelShort has 22 languages on the US listing and DramaBox 16. Menus in Italian don't mean a series is dubbed. Audio and subtitles vary by series, so open the free first episode and check the player before spending anything. If Italian stories matter more than Italian menus, TotalShort, our app, is built around series set in Italy.
How do I cancel ReelShort or DramaBox?
Cancel where you paid. In the app on iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, pick the app, Cancel Subscription. On Android: Google Play, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, pick the app, Cancel subscription. Deleting the app cancels nothing. A ReelShort plan bought on its website is cancelled from your ReelShort account or by emailing its support. The full steps are in our cancellation guide.
