The best mini drama apps in 2026, by score

Short answer

The best mini drama app is TotalShort, our app (9.4/10): free to start in the browser with no sign-up, original Italian series in one-minute episodes, and a €5.99 weekly VIP that is the lowest weekly plan we found in euro. The next best by score are FlickReels (7.9), NetShort (7.8), ReelShort and StoryReel (7.6), GoodShort (7.5), then Shortical and VibeShort (7.4). All eight play episodes in a browser. Scores use facts verified on October 19, 2026.

A mini drama app streams series made for a phone held upright: episodes of a minute or two, a cliffhanger at the end of nearly every one, and a story that runs for dozens of episodes. "Mini drama", "short drama", "micro-drama" and "vertical drama" are names for the same format, so this list overlaps with our main ranking of short drama apps. Here we keep only the eight mini drama apps with the highest score out of 10, and say what each one is good for.

The score comes from six weighted criteria: free to start, cost to finish a series, Italian stories and language, transparency, platforms, and catalog and track record. The full rules are on how we rate. We make TotalShort, so it carries an "Our app" label, and you can check its points like any other app's.

The eight best mini drama apps

1. TotalShort (our app)

9.4/10 Excellent · Our app · how we score

TotalShort is the mini drama app we make, and it tops our score. You can watch TotalShort free on its website, on an iPhone, an Android phone or a computer, with no sign-up; there's also an Android app on Google Play. The series are original Italian stories set in real places, from Lake Como to the slopes of Etna, with Italian and English audio and subtitles in 13 languages. Every unlock asks before it spends, coins never expire, and every series is labeled "AI series" because it's made with AI. The optional VIP costs €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year.

Good to know: the catalog is still growing, the series are AI-made with no real actors, and the app is too new for store ratings. Full review: TotalShort.

2. FlickReels

7.9/10 Good · how we score

FlickReels rates 4.8 from 105.5K US App Store ratings and is rated 13+. On the series we checked on its website, the first 10 episodes were free, and the browser player is why it scores well on free to start. Its listing names AI-powered content and an AI co-creation feature. The US App Store shows a weekly plan at $12.99; on the Italian App Store the lowest weekly membership is €6.99. FlickReels review.

3. NetShort

7.8/10 Good · how we score

NetShort has 214K US App Store ratings (4.7, 13+). On its website the series we opened had its first 9 episodes free, and the app shows ads as another way to keep watching. Its weekly plan is $19.99 on the US App Store, while the Italian store lists one from €9.99. Its own terms set 18 as the minimum age, above Apple's 13+. NetShort review.

4. ReelShort

7.6/10 Good · how we score

ReelShort is one of the best-known names in mini dramas, with 504K US App Store ratings (4.7). On its website, the series we checked had episodes 1 to 13 free, and its VIP is listed at $19.99 for 7 days. That high weekly price is what holds its cost score back, while its 504K ratings give it full marks on catalog. It also has the widest language list of these eight, 22. ReelShort review.

5. StoryReel

7.6/10 Good · how we score

StoryReel is rated 4.8 from 46.5K US ratings and is 18+, so it's an adults-only pick. Its first episodes play in a browser, and its Weekly Pass Pro ranges from $7.99 to $24.99 in the US. It ties with ReelShort on score; ReelShort goes first because it has more ratings. StoryReel review.

6. GoodShort

7.5/10 Good · how we score

GoodShort has the best store rating here, 4.9 from 527K US ratings, and a weekly VIP from $5.99. Nine episodes were free on the series we opened on its website. It has full marks on catalog, but loses points on language: its 14 interface languages don't include Italian. GoodShort review.

7. Shortical

7.4/10 Good · how we score

Shortical (4.7 from 53.8K ratings, 13+) suits long series you'd like to start on the web: episodes 1 to 13 were free on the series we checked. Its terms say its services are based on AI technology. Weekly VIP is $9.99 in the US, and a yearly plan $149.99. Shortical review.

8. VibeShort

7.4/10 Good · how we score

VibeShort lists the lowest weekly pass on the US App Store, $4.99 for its Weekly Pass Pro, and calls itself an AI-powered app with AI-generated stories. It's rated 18+ and plays its first episodes in a browser. On the Italian App Store its lowest weekly pass is €9.99, which is the figure the cost score uses. VibeShort review.

How to pick a mini drama app

Start where you'll watch. If you want to try a series on a laptop or without installing anything, all eight above play in a browser, and TotalShort needs no account at all. Then check the age rating: StoryReel and VibeShort are 18+, and several 13+ apps set 18 in their own terms.

Next, look at what finishing a series costs you, not only the price of the first week. Weekly plans renew on their own, so the cheapest route is often one week of a plan, used fully, then cancelled. Our guide to what it costs to finish a short drama series works through the numbers, and the cheapest short drama apps list sorts every app by weekly price.

Finally, watch the free episodes of two apps before paying either. Story taste is personal, and no score can measure it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a mini drama app?

It's an app for mini dramas, also called short dramas or micro-dramas: series filmed vertically for a phone, with episodes of about one to three minutes and a twist at the end of each. Most apps let you watch the first episodes free, then charge coins per episode or a weekly plan. The format grew out of Chinese "duanju" and spread worldwide through apps like ReelShort and DramaBox. Our guide on what a short drama is covers the history.

What is the best mini drama app?

By our score, TotalShort (9.4/10), the app we make. It's free to start on its website with no sign-up, its weekly VIP (€5.99) is the lowest weekly plan we found in euro, and every unlock asks first. If you prefer a large catalog of American-style series, FlickReels and NetShort score highest among the others, both with free episodes in the browser.

Are mini drama apps free?

They're free to download, and most give away the opening episodes of each series. After that, you usually pay with coins or a weekly plan. TotalShort, our app, is free to watch with no sign-up. NetShort shows ads, and FreeReels on Android runs entirely on ads. See our list of free short drama apps for what each one gives away.

Is a mini drama the same as a micro-drama?

Yes. Mini drama, short drama, micro-drama and vertical drama all describe the same thing: a serialized story with very short vertical episodes. App stores and markets use different names, which is why you'll see all four in listings. The apps on this page call themselves by different ones, but the format is the same.

Can I watch mini dramas on a computer?

Yes. All eight apps on this page play episodes in a web browser, at least the first ones. TotalShort plays free at totalshort.com on any computer or phone, with no account. Our page on how to watch short dramas online lists the official sites with a player.

Which mini drama apps are safe for teenagers?

Check two things: the store age rating and the app's own terms. FlickReels, NetShort, ReelShort, Shortical and GoodShort are rated 13+ on the US App Store, but ReelShort and NetShort set 18 in their terms. StoryReel and VibeShort are 18+. TotalShort is rated Teen on Google Play. Our guide to whether short drama apps are safe covers parental controls.
