AI short drama apps: the five that say so in writing

Short answer

Five short drama apps state in an official source that they use AI. TotalShort (our app, Android) labels every series as made with AI. FlickReels mixes regular dramas with AI-powered content (4.8 from 105,513 US ratings, 13+). StardustTV says it uses AI-assisted production (4.72 from 78,528, 13+). Shortical's terms say its services are based on AI technology (4.7 from 53,798, 13+). VibeShort's listing calls it an AI-powered app with AI-generated tales (4.7 from 46,267, 18+). DramaBox, ReelShort, GoodShort, NetShort, CandyJar and StoryReel don't say so. Checked October 6–15, 2026.

Only five short drama apps say in an official source that they use AI: TotalShort, FlickReels, StardustTV, Shortical and VibeShort. The other four are ordered by number of US App Store ratings. How much AI each one uses varies a lot, from every series (TotalShort) to a feature inside a larger catalog (FlickReels), so read the "what it says" line in each entry before you assume.

What "AI short drama" means here

A short drama is a vertical mini-series with episodes of a minute or two, made for phones. An AI short drama is one where the images, voices or both are generated with AI tools rather than filmed with actors. Some apps make that the whole product; others mention AI in passing, for recommendations or visual effects. We only count an app when its store listing, terms or labels say its content is AI-made or AI-based. New to the format? Start with what a short drama is.

The apps that say they use AI

1. TotalShort (our app)

TotalShort is ours, and it is the most explicit of the five: every series is made with AI and carries an "AI series" label, and the Google Play listing (read October 15, 2026; updated October 14) is itself labeled AI. There are six series, all set in Italy, such as The Bride of Etna, where a woman takes her sister's place at the altar under Mount Etna. Audio is Italian, some series also have English audio, and subtitles come in 13 languages. Content can be reported from the player.

The first 8 episodes of every series are free, then 1 a day per series; paid episodes are 30 coins (€0.30). Limits: no real actors by design, six series, Android only (iPhone version coming soon), no ratings yet.

Best for: viewers who want to know up front that what they're watching is AI-made. TotalShort review

2. FlickReels

What it says: the US App Store listing, titled "FlickReels - AI Story & Drama" and read October 6, 2026, describes "popular vertical short dramas, original stories, and AI-powered innovative content", says "AI technology creates a unique visual style", and offers AI Co-Creation to "craft your own exclusive story". It doesn't say which series are AI-made, so expect a mix.

FlickReels has 4.8 from 105,513 US ratings, the most of these five, and is rated 13+. It's been on the App Store since July 2024. Plans are a Weekly Membership at $12.99 or $19.99 and a Monthly Membership at $39.99. Its website played episodes 1 to 10 of the series we checked.

Best for: trying AI storytelling as a feature, inside a regular drama catalog. FlickReels review

3. StardustTV

What it says: the US App Store listing, read October 15, 2026, opens its description with "Original Dramas Powered by AI" and says the developer "uses AI-assisted production" for larger scenes and action. It doesn't say how much of each series is generated and how much is filmed.

StardustTV, from Hongxing Media Co., Limited, has 4.72 from 78,528 US ratings and is rated 13+. It's been on the App Store since July 2024. The subscription is valid for 7 days and billed weekly, with lines at $19.99, $24.99 and $29.99, and subscribers can watch all stories. The listing doesn't state a free episode count.

Best for: binge watchers who want one weekly price that unlocks every story. StardustTV review

4. Shortical

What it says: Shortical's end-user license agreement (revised May 13, 2026) states that the app's "features, and Services are based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology" and has a section on AI-generated content. Like FlickReels, it doesn't say which series use AI or how much. Its website also has a section called "License Your Face".

Shortical, from Short Entertainment LTD, holds 4.7 from 53,798 US ratings (October 6, 2026), is rated 13+, and plays in a browser: Room Service had episodes 1 to 13 free. In the app, weekly VIP is listed at $9.99 and $19.99, yearly at $149.99 and $199.99.

Best for: people who want to watch on a computer as well as a phone. Shortical review

5. VibeShort

What it says: the App Store listing, titled "VibeShort: AI Short Dramas", calls it "an AI-powered short-drama app" with "AI-generated tales with cinematic visuals", plus interactive comic-style stories. Its terms (updated July 28, 2026) include an "AIGC" section saying generated content "may not always be accurate".

VibeShort has 4.7 from 46,267 US ratings (October 6, 2026), has been on the App Store since February 2026, and is rated 18+. The Weekly Pass Pro is listed at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99, and the description names a Yearly Pro Pass at $149.99. Its website played the first 6 episodes free on two series. Bonus coins expire under its terms.

Best for: adults who want an app built around AI-made stories. VibeShort review

Apps that don't say they use AI

We checked the listings and, where available, the terms of the bigger apps. DramaBox, ReelShort, GoodShort and NetShort don't say their series are made with AI. Neither the App Store listing nor the terms of CandyJar or StoryReel say so; CandyJar's listing talks about its "stars". Two near-misses: ShortMax lists "AI recommendations", which is about suggesting shows, not making them, and DramaWave's publisher is named SKYWORK AI PTE LTD, a company name rather than a claim about its series. Wikipedia reports that My Drama's parent bought an AI studio in early 2026, but the app's listing doesn't label its series as AI.

That doesn't prove those apps use no AI anywhere. It means they don't say so, which is the only thing we can check.

How we picked

An app made this list only if its store listing, terms of service or on-screen labels state that its content or service is AI-made or AI-based, read between October 6 and 15, 2026. Company names and AI-powered recommendations don't count. Apps are ordered by US App Store rating count after TotalShort, which is first because it is ours. The rules are on how we rate; every app is on the compare page and the home ranking.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI short drama app?

It's a short drama app whose series are made, wholly or partly, with AI tools for images, voices or both, instead of being filmed with actors. VibeShort and TotalShort are built around AI-made stories; StardustTV says it uses AI-assisted production; FlickReels and Shortical mention AI as part of a wider service. The format is the same as on ReelShort or DramaBox: vertical episodes, cliffhangers, coins and plans.

Is ReelShort or DramaBox made with AI?

Their App Store listings don't say so. ReelShort describes live-action series and interactive stories, and DramaBox's listing talks about short dramas without mentioning AI-made content. If AI matters to you, check the credits of the specific series, since apps can change how they produce shows over time. The ReelShort vs DramaBox page compares the two on everything else.

How can I tell if a short drama is AI-generated?

Look for a label first: TotalShort marks every series "AI series", VibeShort says it in its app name, and StardustTV in the first line of its description. Then check the listing and the terms for words like "AI-generated" or "AIGC". On screen, unnaturally smooth faces, mismatched lip movement or backgrounds that shift between shots can be signs, but they're not proof either way.

Are AI short drama apps cheaper?

Not by default. VibeShort's Weekly Pass Pro starts at $4.99 on the US listing, as low as any weekly price we found, but its description names $19.99 a week as the standard weekly pass. FlickReels starts at $12.99 a week, Shortical at $9.99 and StardustTV at $19.99. TotalShort charges 30 coins (€0.30) per paid episode after 8 free ones. Prices change by country, and the payment sheet is what counts.

Are AI short drama apps safe for teens?

FlickReels, StardustTV and Shortical are rated 13+ on the US App Store; VibeShort is 18+, and its terms say minors may use it only under adult supervision. TotalShort is rated Teen on Google Play. AI doesn't change the main risk, which is spending: set purchase approval on the phone. Our safety guide covers the checks.

Does TotalShort use real actors?

No. Every TotalShort series is made with AI, which is why each one carries an "AI series" label. We say it on every series because viewers should know what they're watching. If you'd rather see real actors, the bigger apps on our apps like ReelShort list are the place to look.

Can I watch AI short dramas in a browser?

Shortical, FlickReels and VibeShort all played free episodes on their websites when we checked on October 6, 2026: 13, 10 and 6 respectively on the series we opened. We didn't check a web player for StardustTV. TotalShort does not play in a browser; it's an Android app for now, with an iPhone version coming soon. A web sample is a good way to judge whether AI-made visuals bother you before you install anything.
