Everything below about CandyJar comes from its official App Store listing, terms of use and help center, with the dates we read them.

The short verdict

CandyJar is a well-established, ad-free short drama service with a clear set of rules and a real refund window. It is also one of the stingier apps on free viewing: one episode or short per day, with no option to watch ads for more.

For months of viewing, the yearly plan makes sense. For a quick week, the weekly price is high, and Auto-Unlock can spend coins faster than you expect.

What is CandyJar and who makes it

CandyJar streams short dramas: vertical series made for the phone, split into brief episodes that each end on a turn. The catalogue leans heavily on romance, with bad boys, billionaires, enemies-to-lovers, mafia and werewolf storylines. Titles named on the App Store include Keily, Secrets of Sin, The Arrangement and His Nerd, and the listing says new episodes arrive every week.

Read on October 6, 2026. CandyJar's help center says the yearly plan is the best value and that weekly and monthly plans are only offered in some locations.

Coins per episode

There is no fixed coin price. The help center says the cost of an episode depends on its length and type, and that you see the exact number when you tap a locked episode, before anything is spent. So the only honest way to price a series is to check the first locked episode yourself.

What VIP actually is

VIP is not a subscription. According to the help center, it gives early access to eligible shows one week ahead of everyone else, and includes neither a subscription nor coins. People already subscribed before September 4, 2026 received a year of VIP at no charge; for others it is $9.99 a week on top of a plan. You don't need it to watch.

Example: weekly versus yearly over two months

Plain arithmetic, assuming you keep the weekly plan for eight weeks: 8 × $19.99 = $159.92. That is more than twice the $69.99 yearly plan. Prices vary by country and change over time; the payment screen is what counts. More on coin systems in our coins guide.

What's free

The help center spells out the free allowance:

  • One free episode or short every 24 hours, without coins or a subscription.
  • One-time bonus coins in the Rewards tab: 50 for verifying your email, 50 for turning on notifications, 50 for each social account you follow, 50 for installing the Galatea app, and 250 for taking part in a feedback call.

CandyJar is ad-free, so there is no way to watch ads for coins, and there is no daily login reward.

Free trial and promotions

The help center states that CandyJar doesn't currently offer a free trial. On October 6, 2026 the candyjar.com homepage did advertise "2 months of free, unlimited streaming", a time-limited offer. Any offer like that renews into a paid plan unless you cancel, so read the terms before entering a card.

Student plan

The student plan requires you to be at least 18, enrolled at an eligible college or university, and signed up with a qualifying student email. The student price lasts up to four years before renewing at the regular rate.

Copies outside the app

Reuploads on other video sites and "free APK" files are not official and a common source of malware; our page on free short drama apps lists legal options.

Is it legit and safe

Yes. CandyJar is published by a registered German company that lists its address and VAT number in its terms, has 49,434 ratings on the US App Store, runs a public help center, and takes payment through Apple, Google, Roku or its own website. In the EU, the terms add a statutory withdrawal right for website purchases.

The points to watch are about spending:

  • Auto-Unlock is on by default. It uses coins to open the next episode as soon as one ends. Turn it off per series under More > My Wallet > Series on Auto-Unlock.
  • Weekly billing adds up. At $19.99 a week, a plan you forget for a year costs over $1,000.
  • Four places to subscribe. Website, Apple, Google and Roku each manage their own subscriptions.
  • Age. The App Store rates CandyJar 13+, while the student plan requires users to be 18. The catalogue is romance-heavy; if a teenager uses the phone, look at the titles yourself.

How to cancel CandyJar

Cancel in the same place you paid. Check your email for the receipt if you aren't sure. Deleting the app cancels nothing, and you keep access until the paid period ends.

Website subscription

Log in at candyjar.com and cancel from your subscription settings. If you also want your money back, contact CandyJar support within 7 days of the charge.

iPhone or Android subscription

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Pick the app, then Cancel Subscription.

Apple: Cancel a subscription from Apple

Android

  1. Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Pick the app, then Cancel subscription.

Google: Cancel a subscription on Google Play

Deleting the app does not cancel anything. If you paid on the app's website, cancel on that website.

Apple's instructions: support.apple.com/en-us/118428. Google's: support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481.

Roku subscription

Roku subscriptions are managed in your Roku account's subscription page, according to the help center.

VIP

The VIP add-on is cancelled in the same subscription settings as your plan.

Refunds

The help center says subscription refunds are available within 7 days of the charge, and that active, working subscriptions can't be refunded after that. Apple purchases go through Apple's process (support.apple.com/en-us/118223), Google Play purchases through Google, Roku purchases through Roku, and website purchases through CandyJar support. Our cancellation guide covers other apps too.

Who it suits

CandyJar is a good fit if:

  • You'll watch most days for months and will take the yearly plan.
  • You hate ads and want none at all.
  • You want to watch on a TV through Apple TV or Roku.

It is a poor fit if you want plenty of free viewing or want to watch in a laptop browser.

CandyJar vs TotalShort

TotalShort is our own app, so weigh this accordingly. On browser viewing they are level: neither CandyJar nor TotalShort plays in a web browser. TotalShort is on Google Play today, and its iPhone version is coming soon to the App Store but is not out yet. CandyJar is already on both stores and on Apple TV and Roku.

Where TotalShort is more generous is the free route. Every series gives you the first 8 episodes free, plus 1 free episode a day per series, against CandyJar's single free episode a day across the whole app. TotalShort's coins never expire and nothing unlocks without your confirmation, so there is no equivalent of Auto-Unlock running in the background. VIP is €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year through Google Play.

Our limits, plainly: six series, all made with AI and labeled "AI series", no real actors, Italian settings with Italian audio and subtitles in 13 languages, Android only for now, and no public rating yet. CandyJar's listing doesn't say its shows are made with AI. See the TotalShort review, or line the apps up on the comparison page.

Frequently asked questions

How many free episodes does CandyJar give?

One free episode or short every 24 hours, according to CandyJar's help center. On top of that you can collect one-time bonus coins: 50 each for verifying your email, turning on notifications, following a social account and installing the Galatea app, and 250 for a feedback call. The app has no ads, so you can't watch ads to unlock more. Beyond that, you need coins or a subscription.

Does CandyJar have a free trial?

No. The help center says CandyJar doesn't currently offer one. You may see time-limited promotions on candyjar.com; on October 6, 2026 the homepage advertised two months of free unlimited streaming. Offers like that turn into a paid plan unless you cancel in time, so read the renewal terms on the payment screen. If you subscribe and change your mind, a refund can be requested within 7 days of the charge.

How much is CandyJar per month?

The US App Store listing, read October 6, 2026, doesn't show a monthly plan. It lists Unlimited Weekly at $19.99 and Unlimited Yearly at $69.99, plus coin packs from $1.99 to $49.99. The help center says weekly and monthly plans exist only in some locations. Four weeks on the weekly plan cost $79.96, which is more than a full year on the yearly plan.

Why are my CandyJar coins disappearing?

Most likely Auto-Unlock. The help center explains that it is on by default and uses coins to open the next episode automatically when you finish one. You can switch it off per series under More > My Wallet > Series on Auto-Unlock. Each episode's coin price depends on its length and type and is shown on the locked episode before you unlock it manually.

Can I watch CandyJar on my TV or computer?

On TV, yes: CandyJar has apps for Apple TV and Roku, where you sign in with the same account. Both support subscriptions only, so you can't buy or spend coins there. Other TVs can mirror a phone or tablet. On a computer, no: the help center says there is no browser or website streaming option. A Fire TV app isn't listed in the help center.

How do I get a refund from CandyJar?

Ask within 7 days of the charge. The help center says subscription refunds are available in that window and not for active, working subscriptions after it. Where you ask depends on where you paid: CandyJar support for website purchases, Apple for App Store purchases, Google for Google Play purchases and Roku for Roku purchases. Cancel the subscription too, so it doesn't renew.
