The short verdict
Shortical is a legitimate short drama service with a large following and a generous free start: 13 free episodes on the series we opened. The catch is structural. You can pay inside the app or on the website, the two have different prices, and each has its own cancel button.
The second catch is timing. On the series we checked, most episodes were not out yet, with the last one scheduled for July 2027. Know both things before you spend and Shortical is a reasonable choice, especially if you like watching on a laptop.
What is Shortical and who makes it
Shortical is a vertical short drama app: series cut into short episodes, built for a phone screen, each one closing on a hook. Its App Store description pitches billionaire romance, werewolf sagas and time-travel mysteries, with new episodes every day. If the format itself is new to you, our explainer on what a short drama is covers the basics.

Shortical's End User License Agreement (last revised May 13, 2026) is governed by the laws of the State of Israel, with disputes heard in Tel Aviv. It requires users to be at least 13. The same document says the app's features and services are based on artificial intelligence technology, and it has a section on AI-generated content. It does not say which series, or which parts of them, involve AI.
How much Shortical costs
Shortical has two shops: the in-app store, run by Apple or Google, and the website, which bills through Stripe or Paddle according to its Subscription Policy. They do not share prices.
In the app (US App Store)
The US listing showed these in-app purchases when we read it on October 6, 2026:
| Item on the listing | US price |
|---|---|
| Weekly VIP | $9.99 or $19.99 |
| Yearly VIP | $149.99 or $199.99 |
| One-time purchases (coins) | $0.99, $2.99, $6.99, $9.99, $12.99, $24.99 |
The store shows a limited number of items, and it doesn't say who is offered which price.
On the website
When we opened a locked episode on shortical.com on October 6, 2026, the site asked for an email and showed a plan screen headed "CHEAPER THAN IN THE APP", with an eight-minute countdown and a "67% discount reserved" banner.
| Web plan | First period | Renews at |
|---|---|---|
| 1 week | $7.99 | $15.00 a week |
| 2 weeks | $8.49 | $25.00 every two weeks |
| 1 month | $14.99 | $45.00 a month |
The countdown is a sales device; plans were for sale before it started and will be after it ends. What matters is the renewal column.
Example: the monthly web plan, left running
This is plain arithmetic on the listed prices, assuming you forget to cancel. First month at the intro price, then two full-price months: $14.99 + 2 × $45.00 = $104.99 over three months.
Compare that with the "cheaper than in the app" banner. After the intro period, the one-week web plan renews at $15.00, while the US App Store lists a weekly VIP at $9.99. Depending on what you are offered, the app can be the cheaper route. Prices change by country and over time, and the payment screen in front of you is the one that counts. For how coin systems generally work, see our coins explainer.
What's free
The download is free, and so is browsing the website. Each series opens with free episodes. On Room Service, the page said episodes 1 to 13 were free, with the rest unlocked by coins or VIP.
Episodes that haven't come out yet
This is the detail that changes the buying decision. Room Service listed 90 episodes, but on October 6, 2026 everything after episode 30 showed a countdown or a release date, and episode 90 was dated July 25, 2027. The series page described it as ongoing, with new episodes weekly.
A plan bought today unlocks what exists today, so count the released episodes first.
Coins and "free VIP" offers
Shortical's terms say virtual currency has no monetary or real-world value, that purchases are final, and that coins are lost if your account is closed. Sites offering unlimited coins, modified APKs or free VIP logins have nothing to do with Shortical; avoid them, since they are a common route to stolen accounts and malware. Our list of free short drama apps covers the legal options.
Is it legit and safe
Yes. Shortical has a named company, 53,798 US ratings, published terms and a subscription policy, a support address, and payments handled by Apple, Google, Stripe or Paddle. The risks are about money and attention:
- Two billing systems. A website plan does not appear in your iPhone or Google Play subscriptions, and an app plan cannot be cancelled on the website.
- Intro prices. The first period is cheap; the renewal is two to three times higher on the web plans we saw.
- Pressure tactics. A countdown is designed to stop you comparing. You can close the tab and come back.
- Shared logins. The terms make you responsible for purchases made with your login, "whether or not authorized by you". Sign out on shared computers.
The website asks for an email to save progress and offers Google sign-in. Our guide to whether short drama apps are safe has a general checklist.
How to cancel Shortical
First work out where you paid: an Apple or Google receipt means the app; Stripe or Paddle means the website. Shortical's Subscription Policy says uninstalling the app does not cancel anything, and that after cancelling you keep access until the end of the current billing period.
If you paid on the website
The Subscription Policy gives the route as Profile > Unsubscribe.
- Sign in at shortical.com with the same email or Google account you paid with.
- Open Profile.
- Choose Unsubscribe and confirm.
If the option is missing, the policy points to support@shortical.com. Keep your Stripe or Paddle receipt for any follow-up.
If you paid in the app
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel Subscription.
Android
- Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel subscription.
Deleting the app does not cancel anything. If you paid on the app's website, cancel on that website.
Apple's own instructions are at support.apple.com/en-us/118428, and Google's at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481.
Refunds
The policy says fees are non-refundable to the extent the law allows, and that buying a subscription waives the EU withdrawal right. For app purchases, refund requests go to the store under its own rules; Apple explains the process at support.apple.com/en-us/118223. For website purchases, write to support@shortical.com. Our cancellation guide covers the general steps for every app.
Who it suits
Shortical suits you if:
- You want to watch on a laptop or desktop browser as well as on a phone.
- You follow ongoing series week by week and don't mind waiting for new episodes.
- You will actually use a yearly plan, which is where the per-week cost is lowest.
It is a weaker fit if you want to binge one story to its finish this weekend, or if you might forget which billing system you used.
Shortical vs TotalShort
TotalShort is our app, so we are not neutral here. The clearest practical difference: Shortical plays in a web browser and TotalShort does not. TotalShort is an Android app on Google Play today, and the iPhone version is coming soon to the App Store but is not available yet. If browser viewing matters to you, that settles it in Shortical's favor.
Where TotalShort differs on pricing and catalogue:
- The first 8 episodes of every series are free, plus 1 free episode a day per series.
- VIP costs €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year, billed by Google Play, with no free trial that turns into a charge. Coins never expire, and nothing unlocks without your confirmation.
- Every series is made with AI and carries an "AI series" label. Shortical's terms mention AI but don't say where it is used.
The honest limits on our side: six series against Shortical's much larger library, AI-made with no real actors, Italian settings and Italian audio with subtitles, Android only for now, and no public rating yet because the app is brand new. Frequently asked questions
Is Shortical free to watch?
Partly. Downloading the app and using the website cost nothing, and each series starts with free episodes. On Room Service, the series we checked on October 6, 2026, episodes 1 to 13 were free. Beyond that you need coins or VIP. Shortical's terms say coins have no real-world value and purchases are final. Ignore sites promising free coins or unlocked versions of the app; they are not connected to Shortical and are a known route to account theft.
How much is Shortical VIP in the US?
The US App Store listing, read October 6, 2026, showed weekly VIP at $9.99 and $19.99 and yearly VIP at $149.99 and $199.99, plus coin purchases from $0.99 to $24.99. The website sells its own plans with intro prices, for example one month at $14.99 that renews at $45.00 a month. Prices vary by country and change over time, so check the amount on the payment screen before you confirm.
Why can't I find Shortical in my iPhone subscriptions?
Most likely you subscribed on shortical.com. Website plans are billed through Stripe or Paddle and live in your Shortical profile, not in Apple's or Google's subscription lists. Sign in on the website with the email or Google account you paid with, go to Profile and choose Unsubscribe. If you did pay in the app, check that your phone is signed in to the same Apple or Google account that was charged.
Why are some Shortical episodes locked with a date?
Because they haven't been released. On Room Service, episodes after 30 showed countdowns or release dates on October 6, 2026, with the final episode dated July 25, 2027. Paying for VIP or coins does not release them early. If you want to finish a story quickly, check how many of its episodes are already out before you pay.
Is Shortical made with AI?
Shortical's End User License Agreement says its features and services are based on AI technology and includes a section on AI-generated content. It doesn't specify which series or which parts of production use AI, so we can't tell you for a given title. If it matters to you, ask support@shortical.com about a specific series. TotalShort, our app, labels every series it makes with AI.
Can I get a refund from Shortical?
Its Subscription Policy says fees are non-refundable to the extent the law permits, and that buying a subscription waives the EU withdrawal right. For purchases made in the app, you can still ask Apple or Google, which apply their own refund rules. For website purchases, contact support@shortical.com with your Stripe or Paddle receipt. Cancel first, so the next renewal doesn't go through while you wait.
