DramaBox is not a scam. It is one of the largest short drama apps, run by a named company, with 867K ratings on the US App Store. The part that deserves your attention is the price list, which shows amounts without saying whether they are charged weekly, monthly or once.
We compare DramaBox with our app near the end and say where DramaBox is ahead.
What is DramaBox and who makes it
DramaBox streams vertical mini series designed for a phone, the format sometimes called micro-drama. Its US listing opens with "Hub of Shorts. Watch on the Go" and mentions HD streaming, recommendations based on what you watch, playlists and favorites. The Italian listing adds that new series arrive every week and that episodes last a few minutes. Our guide to what a short drama is explains the format if it's new to you.
The publisher on the App Store is STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. "Pte. Ltd." is the suffix Singapore uses for private limited companies, and Wikipedia's article on microdramas describes DramaBox as operated by StoryMatrix.

How much DramaBox costs
Prices on the US App Store listing
| Purchase type | US prices listed |
|---|---|
| Membership | $5.99, $17.99, $19.99 (the $19.99 entry appears more than once) |
| Special offer | $4.99, $9.99, $19.99 |
| Full range | $4.99 to $19.99 |
The listing says the Membership is an auto-renewing subscription: you are charged when you confirm, and it renews unless you turn off automatic renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends. What it never says is the length of each period. A $5.99 membership that renews weekly and one that renews monthly are very different bills, and the only place you'll see the difference is the Apple or Google payment sheet, just before you confirm.
Prices also vary by country and promotion. Treat the table as one storefront on one day.
Example: what the period does to the same price
This is a hypothesis, not a quote. The listing doesn't state the period, so we're showing how the same sticker price scales under two assumptions.
- If the $5.99 membership renewed weekly for 8 weeks: 8 × $5.99 = $47.92.
- If it renewed monthly for the same two months: 2 × $5.99 = $11.98.
Same price on the listing, a difference of $35.94 over two months. That's why the period on the payment sheet matters more than the number in large type.
What's free on DramaBox
The download costs nothing, and the opening episodes of series can be watched for free. After that, the app asks for a membership or a purchase. The listing doesn't give a number of free episodes per series, and we haven't verified one, so the honest answer is: open the series you want and count how many episodes are locked.
The US listing presents ad-free viewing as a subscription feature, which suggests the free experience includes ads. Other free routes, such as daily bonuses, are common in this category, but we haven't confirmed DramaBox's rules for them.
Pages offering every DramaBox series free online, "modded" APKs or unlimited coins are not run by the developer. They infringe the creators' rights and are a known route to malware and card theft. For legal free options across apps, see our list of free short drama apps.
Is DramaBox legit and safe
The official app is legit. It's published under a named company, it carries 867K US ratings at 4.8 stars, and you pay through your Apple or Google account rather than a card form inside the app. The listing also says subscriptions are managed in your account settings, which is where you'd expect them.
"Safe" has two more parts:
- Content. The App Store rates DramaBox 18+ in the US and 17+ in Italy. That's the store's guidance on content, and it's stricter than most apps in our comparison.
- Spending. Auto-renewing memberships with no visible period on the listing are where people lose money. Read the sheet, set a calendar reminder, and cancel the same day if you only want one stretch of viewing.
Before installing, check that the store page names STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. as the developer. On a shared phone, Apple's Screen Time purchase controls and Google Play's purchase verification can block or slow down in-app purchases. Our guide on whether short drama apps are safe covers look-alike apps in more detail.
How to cancel DramaBox
A DramaBox membership lives in your Apple or Google account. Deleting the app does not stop it.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel Subscription.
Android
- Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel subscription.
Deleting the app does not cancel anything. If you paid on the app's website, cancel on that website.
Apple's own steps are on its cancel a subscription page, and Google's on its Google Play subscriptions page. On iPhone, if there's no Cancel button or the expiry date shows in red, the membership is already cancelled. Either way, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
DramaBox-specific notes. The website, dramabox.com, lists titles, episode counts and synopses and sends you to the app stores; when we read it on October 6, 2026, it didn't say episodes play in the browser and offered no plan to buy. So, unlike ReelShort or NetShort, there's no website subscription to hunt down: if you're being charged, check your Apple or Google subscription list, signed in with the account that paid.
Refunds go to the store, not to DramaBox. Apple explains its process on its refund page; Google Play handles its own. The store decides. Our cancellation guide has the same steps for other apps.
Who DramaBox suits
- Adults who want a large, established app. The ratings count is the biggest in our dataset, and new series arrive weekly according to the Italian listing.
- Viewers chasing one title. If someone sent you a DramaBox series, watch the free opening and count the locked episodes before buying anything.
- People who dislike ads. The listing positions ad-free viewing as a membership benefit.
It suits less well anyone under 18, given the age rating, and anyone who wants to watch on a laptop, since we found no browser player. If you're choosing between the big apps, our ReelShort vs DramaBox and DramaBox vs ShortMax pages compare them on listed facts.
DramaBox vs TotalShort
TotalShort is our app, so we're not neutral here. It's a much smaller product, and DramaBox is ahead on several points that matter.
| DramaBox | TotalShort (our app) | |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog | New series every week (Italian listing) | 6 series |
| Made with AI | Not stated on the listing | Yes, every series labeled "AI series" (no real actors) |
| Free episodes | Opening episodes; number not stated | First 8 of every series, plus 1 free a day per series |
| Age rating | 18+ (US App Store) | Teen (Google Play) |
| Platforms | iPhone and Android | Android (Google Play) only; iPhone version coming soon; no web player |
| Ratings | 4.8 from 867K (US App Store) | Brand new, no public rating yet |
| Pricing | US dollars, period not stated on the listing | Euro: VIP €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year; 30 coins (€0.30) an episode |
DramaBox wins on catalog size, an iPhone app today and a long record of ratings. TotalShort's case is narrower: a fixed free allowance per series, coins that never expire, a confirmation before every unlock, and a guest start with no sign-up. Its stories are set in Italy with Italian audio and subtitles in 13 languages, including English, and some series also have English audio. Finishing a 12-episode TotalShort series after the 8 free episodes costs 4 × 30 = 120 coins, or €1.20.

Frequently asked questions
Is DramaBox legit or a scam?
DramaBox is legit. It's published on the App Store by STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD., a Singapore-registered company, and holds 4.8 stars from 867K US ratings, read on October 2, 2026. Payments go through Apple or Google. Sensor Tower estimated about $450 million in cumulative in-app revenue by early 2025. The real risk isn't fraud but spending: memberships renew automatically and the listing doesn't show their billing period, so read the payment sheet before you confirm.
How much does DramaBox cost a month?
The US listing doesn't say. It shows Membership prices of $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 and special offers at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99, without a period next to each. If a $5.99 membership were weekly, a month would cost roughly four times that; if it were monthly, it would cost $5.99. That's why the Apple or Google payment sheet, which does show the period, is the number to trust. Prices also vary by country.
How many episodes are free on DramaBox?
The listing doesn't give a number, and it likely varies by series. What's confirmed is that the download is free and the opening episodes can be watched without paying, after which the app asks for a membership or purchase. Open the series you're interested in and count the locked episodes before deciding. Avoid sites that promise every episode free, since they aren't run by DramaBox and can expose you to malware or scams.
Why is DramaBox rated 18+?
The US App Store gives DramaBox an 18+ age rating, and the Italian App Store rates it 17+. Apple's age ratings describe the content the store considers the app may contain; the listing doesn't break down the reasons in the text we read. If a teenager uses the phone, treat the rating as the store's guidance, and use Apple's Screen Time or Google Play's purchase verification to control spending as well.
Can I watch DramaBox on a computer?
We couldn't confirm it. When we read dramabox.com on October 6, 2026, it was a catalog with titles, episode counts and synopses, linking to the app stores, and it didn't say that episodes play in the browser. Plan on watching on a phone or tablet. Be wary of other sites offering DramaBox episodes online: if DramaBox doesn't run the site, those are unauthorized copies.
How do I stop DramaBox from charging me?
Cancel the membership in the store that bills you. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose DramaBox and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android, open Google Play, go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select DramaBox and cancel. Deleting the app does not cancel anything. You keep access until the end of the paid period. Refunds are requested from Apple or Google, not from DramaBox.
What apps are similar to DramaBox?
ReelShort, ShortMax, NetShort, DramaWave and GoodShort work the same way: vertical series, free opening episodes, then coins or memberships through in-app purchases. Their prices, age ratings and catalogs differ, so compare the free episodes of the same kind of story in two apps before paying. TotalShort, our app, is a small alternative with six Italian AI-made series and 8 free episodes per series, on Android for now. Our list of apps like DramaBox compares them on listed facts.
