The facts in this StoryReel review come from its US App Store listing, its terms of service and its website, each with the date we read it.
The short verdict
StoryReel is a young app that grew fast: more than 46,000 US ratings within six months of launch. It is a normal, legitimate subscription business, it bills through Apple or Google, and its website lets you try the first episodes of a series without installing anything.
Two things deserve care. The weekly pass carries one name but four listed prices, so the figure on your screen is the only one that matters. And StoryReel is for adults only, by its own store rating and terms.
What is StoryReel and who makes it
StoryReel is a vertical short drama app: series designed for a phone screen, told in short episodes that each end on a twist. Its App Store listing promises forbidden werewolf romance, billionaire family secrets, mafia worlds and second-chance love stories. When we looked at the website on October 6, 2026, the catalogue was full of mafia bosses, hidden heiresses and shifters. New to the format? Our page on what a short drama is explains it.

Renewal rules
The listing states the standard terms: subscriptions are processed by the App Store, renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends, and are charged within the 24 hours before renewal at the price of your plan.
Example: a month at the second price
Plain arithmetic, assuming you are offered the $14.99 pass and keep it for four weeks: 4 × $14.99 = $59.96. Run the same sum with the price on your own screen before you subscribe. Prices vary by country and change over time; the payment sheet is what counts. For how coin balances usually work, see our coins explainer.
What's free
The download is free. The listing mentions daily check-in rewards and coins for unlocking premium episodes, and says some content and features may need coins or a subscription. It doesn't say how many episodes of each series are free in the app.
Free episodes in the browser
StoryReel's website, storyreel.life, plays episodes in a browser, but only the early ones. On October 6, 2026, one of the two series we tried played its first 11 episodes on the site and the other played fewer than 10. After that, the page invites you to continue in the app with a "Get the App" button.
The website doesn't sell plans. That means there is nothing to subscribe to, and nothing to cancel, on the web: all payments happen in the app. If you mainly want to watch on a computer, see our list of ways to watch short dramas online.
Unofficial copies
Reuploads of StoryReel series on other video sites and modified versions of the app are not official. They infringe the creators' rights and are a known source of scams and malware. Our page on free short drama apps covers legal routes.
Is it legit and safe
Yes. StoryReel has a named company with a registered address, published terms and a privacy policy, a support email, and 46,541 ratings on the US App Store. Money goes through Apple's or Google's billing. Searches for "StoryReel scam" are, in practice, about charges and cancelling rather than fraud.
What to watch:
- Price variation. "Weekly Pass Pro" is listed at four prices. Read the amount and the word "weekly" on the payment sheet.
- Weekly renewal. A pass renews every seven days until you switch it off.
- Adults only. The store rating is 18+ and the terms require users to be 18. It is not meant for teenagers.
- Email-only support. There is no phone line. You can cancel on your own in the store without contacting anyone.
Our guide to whether short drama apps are safe covers parental controls and payment settings.
How to cancel StoryReel
All StoryReel subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, so that is where you cancel. The App Store listing itself points to your Apple account's Subscriptions page. Uninstalling the app doesn't stop the pass.
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel Subscription.
Android
- Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel subscription.
Deleting the app does not cancel anything. If you paid on the app's website, cancel on that website.
Apple's steps are at support.apple.com/en-us/118428 and Google's at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7018481. Turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge; you keep access until then.
If the subscription doesn't appear
The most common reason is being signed in with a different Apple or Google account from the one that paid. Search your email for the store receipt; it names the account.
Refunds
Because Apple or Google bills you, refund requests go to them. Apple explains the process at support.apple.com/en-us/118223; Google handles requests through your Google Play order history. StoryReel's terms don't describe a refund process of their own. Cancel first so the pass doesn't renew while you wait. Our cancellation guide has the same steps for other apps.
Who it suits
StoryReel suits you if:
- You are an adult who likes mafia, werewolf and billionaire romance.
- You want to sample a series in a browser before installing anything.
- You want offline downloads for commutes or flights.
It is a weaker fit if you want a single, predictable price, if you want phone support, or if anyone under 18 uses the device.
StoryReel vs TotalShort
TotalShort is ours, so this comparison is not neutral. StoryReel has a far larger catalogue and is on both app stores already. TotalShort is a small, specific app with six series.
On the browser question: StoryReel's website plays the first episodes of each series; TotalShort doesn't play in a browser at all. TotalShort is available on Android through Google Play now. The iPhone version is coming soon to the App Store and is not available yet.
Where the two differ on price and free viewing:
- TotalShort gives the first 8 episodes of every series free, plus 1 free episode a day per series. StoryReel's listing doesn't state a fixed number.
- TotalShort's VIP has one price per period: €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year, billed by Google Play, with no free trial that turns into a charge.
- TotalShort's coins never expire, and nothing unlocks without your confirmation.
- TotalShort is rated Teen on Google Play; StoryReel is 18+.
TotalShort's limits, stated plainly: six series, all made with AI and labeled "AI series", no real actors, Italian settings with Italian audio and subtitles in 13 languages, Android only for now, and no public rating because the app is brand new. StoryReel's listing doesn't say whether its series use AI. Read our TotalShort review or see VibeShort, another young app with a similar weekly pass.
Frequently asked questions
Is StoryReel a legit app?
Yes. It is published by Equinox Enterprises Technology Limited, a Hong Kong company, has 46,541 ratings averaging 4.8 on the US App Store (read October 6, 2026), publishes terms and a privacy policy, and bills through Apple or Google. It only launched in April 2026, so its history is short. The real risks are financial: a weekly pass that renews on its own and a Weekly Pass Pro listed at four different prices.
How much is the StoryReel Weekly Pass Pro?
The US App Store listing shows it at $7.99, $14.99, $19.99 and $24.99, read on October 6, 2026. One-time purchases are listed at $3.49 and $19.99. The listing doesn't explain who sees which price, so check your payment screen. Four weeks cost from $31.96 at the lowest price to $99.96 at the highest. Prices also vary by country.
How do I cancel StoryReel on iPhone?
Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose StoryReel and tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no cancel button, or the expiry date is shown in red, it's already cancelled. Do it at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next renewal. On Android, use Google Play: profile icon, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, StoryReel, Cancel subscription. Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything.
Does StoryReel have a customer service phone number?
No phone number appears on the App Store listing or the website. The listed contact is the email address service@storyreel.life. You don't need to contact StoryReel to cancel, because Apple or Google manages the subscription and you can stop it yourself in your phone's settings. Use the email for problems such as coins that didn't arrive or episodes that won't unlock.
Can I watch StoryReel on a computer?
Only the opening episodes. The website storyreel.life plays the first episodes of each series in a browser; on the two series we checked on October 6, 2026, that was 11 episodes on one and fewer than 10 on the other. After that, the site asks you to get the app. The website doesn't sell any plan that unlocks the rest.
Is StoryReel appropriate for teenagers?
No, by its own rules. The App Store rates StoryReel 18+, and its terms of service say users must be at least 18 or the age of majority where they live. If a teenager uses the device, use your phone's parental controls; Google explains them at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1626831, and Apple has Screen Time settings for the same purpose.
Can I get a StoryReel refund?
Ask the store that billed you. For App Store purchases, Apple handles requests through its refund page; for Google Play purchases, use your order history. StoryReel's terms don't set out a separate refund process, and the store makes the decision. Cancel the subscription first so it doesn't renew while your request is open, and explain clearly what happened.
