Apps like DramaBox: six alternatives with the same model

Short answer

Six apps work like DramaBox (free download, coins per episode, auto-renewing plans) and have over 100K US App Store ratings: GoodShort (527K), ReelShort (504K), NetShort (214K), DramaWave (180K), ShortMax (177K) and FlickReels (105,513). Unlike DramaBox, five of them print a weekly price on the listing, from $5.99 (GoodShort) to $19.99 (NetShort), and four are rated 13+ rather than 18+. TotalShort, our Android app, is listed first and labeled: 8 free episodes per series, six AI-made Italian series.

The closest apps to DramaBox are GoodShort, ReelShort, NetShort, DramaWave, ShortMax and FlickReels: all six use the same coins-plus-membership model and each has more than 100,000 ratings on the US App Store. TotalShort, listed first, is a much smaller and different alternative. The six others are ordered by US App Store rating count, not by our taste.

DramaBox, for reference

DramaBox is published by STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. and holds 4.8 from 867K ratings on the US App Store, the most on the US App Store among the apps we track (read October 2, 2026). It is rated 18+ there. The listing shows Membership options at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 and special offers from $4.99 to $19.99, without printing how long each Membership lasts. Its website, checked October 6, 2026, is a catalog that sends you to the app. Those four points are what the alternatives below differ on. Our full DramaBox review has the rest.

The alternatives

1. TotalShort (our app)

TotalShort is ours, so take this entry with that in mind. It is not a DramaBox clone: it carries six Italian series, each made with AI and labeled "AI series", with Italian audio and subtitles in 13 languages, including English and Spanish. On Google Play (read October 15, 2026; updated October 14) the first 8 episodes of every series are free, then 1 free episode a day per series. A paid episode is 30 coins (€0.30), coins never expire, and VIP costs €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year, billed by Google Play, with no free trial that turns into a charge.

Limits: six series against DramaBox's large catalog, no real actors, Android only (iPhone version coming soon), and too new for a public rating.

Best for: DramaBox viewers who want romance and revenge stories set in Italy, with a price per episode they can read. TotalShort review

2. GoodShort

GoodShort, from SINGAPORE NEW READING TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD., has 4.9 from 527K US ratings (October 2, 2026). Where DramaBox leaves the period unstated, GoodShort's listing names a weekly VIP at $5.99, $9.99 and $19.99, plus coin packs from 500 coins for $4.99 to 2,500 for $24.99, about a cent a coin. It is rated 13+ on the store, and its user agreement sets the minimum age at 12. On goodshort.com, the series we opened on October 6, 2026 had 9 free episodes. Italian isn't among its 14 interface languages.

Best for: a DramaBox-sized app with a weekly price printed on the listing. GoodShort review

3. ReelShort

ReelShort is DramaBox's nearest rival in size: Sensor Tower estimated about $130 million in in-app revenue for ReelShort in Q1 2025, against about $120 million for DramaBox (report published July 2025). It holds 4.7 from 504K US ratings. The US listing shows one subscription at $19.99, billed weekly per its legal text. Unlike DramaBox's site, reelshort.com plays episodes: 1 to 13 were free on the series we opened on October 6, 2026. The App Store says 13+, but ReelShort's terms (updated October 20, 2025) say not for under-18s.

Best for: watching the same kind of catalog on a computer as well as a phone. ReelShort review

4. NetShort

NetShort, from NETSTORY PTE. LTD. of Singapore, has 4.7 from 214K US ratings and a 13+ store rating (October 2, 2026). Its free tier includes ads, and VIP offers "ad-free viewing where available". The weekly VIP is listed at $19.99, $24.99 and $29.99, the highest entry price among the six. On netshort.com we watched as a visitor: episodes 1 to 9 of one series were free, then 50 coins each (October 6, 2026). Its user agreement says the service is not for users under 18.

Best for: viewers happy to sit through ads instead of paying. NetShort review

5. DramaWave

DramaWave, from SKYWORK AI PTE LTD, holds 4.9 from 180K US ratings and runs in 25 interface languages, the most among the apps we compared (October 2, 2026). Its listing shows weekly VIP at $7.99, $9.99 and $19.99 and a monthly VIP at $36.99, so you can pick a month instead of renewing every week. It also plays in a browser at m.mydramawave.com, where we started an episode on October 6, 2026. Its terms (effective June 25, 2026) say under-18s need a parent's consent.

Best for: watching in a language other than English. DramaWave review

6. ShortMax

ShortMax, from SHORTTV LIMITED, has 4.6 from 177K US ratings and is rated 18+, the same as DramaBox (October 2, 2026). Its description claims "50,000+ trending short dramas and movies in 19 languages" and lists offline downloads and Picture-in-Picture. The listing shows a "Weekly Pass Pro" at $9.99 and $19.99, plus one-time purchases from $3.49 to $24.99. How many episodes are free isn't stated, so check the first one.

Best for: adults who want offline downloads for a commute. ShortMax review

7. FlickReels

FlickReels, from FARSUN PTE. LTD., holds 4.8 from 105,513 US ratings and is rated 13+ (read October 6, 2026). Its listing mixes popular dramas, originals and "AI-powered innovative content". Plans are labeled: a Weekly Membership at $12.99 and $19.99 and a Monthly Membership at $39.99, which costs less than two weeks of the $19.99 plan. Its website played episodes 1 to 10 of the series we checked before asking for the app.

Best for: someone who prefers a monthly plan to weekly renewals. FlickReels review

How we picked

"Like DramaBox" here means the same business model (free download, coins to unlock episodes, an auto-renewing plan billed by Apple or Google) and a comparable audience, which we set at 100,000 or more US App Store ratings. Six apps clear both bars. Smaller apps with the same model, such as Shortical, CandyJar or StoryReel, are on the compare page. Ordering is by rating count, read October 2 and 6, 2026. The details are on how we rate, and the overall list is on the home page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the closest app to DramaBox?

On size and model, ReelShort: both are coin-and-subscription apps with roughly half a million or more US ratings, and Sensor Tower put them about $10 million apart in Q1 2025 in-app revenue. If you care about the price printed on the listing, GoodShort is closer to what DramaBox's $5.99 entry suggests, with a weekly VIP from $5.99. Our ReelShort vs DramaBox page compares the two directly.

Is there a free app like DramaBox?

All six are free to download and have free episodes, but none is free to finish. GoodShort and NetShort each played 9 free episodes of the series we opened on their websites, and ReelShort 13. TotalShort, our app, gives 8 free episodes in every series and then 1 a day per series. For more free routes see our list of free short drama apps.

Which DramaBox alternative is cheapest?

On weekly plans listed on the US App Store, GoodShort is lowest of these six at $5.99, then DramaWave at $7.99 and ShortMax at $9.99. NetShort starts at $19.99. Prices change by country and over time, and the plan you are offered can be higher than the lowest listed, so the payment sheet is the number that counts. Our cheapest short drama apps page goes further.

Is there an app like DramaBox for teenagers?

DramaBox is 18+ on the US App Store. GoodShort, ReelShort, NetShort, DramaWave and FlickReels are rated 13+, but the terms of ReelShort, NetShort and DramaWave say 18 (DramaWave allows younger users with a parent's consent). GoodShort's agreement sets 12. ShortMax is 18+ like DramaBox. Whatever you choose, turn on purchase approval on the phone first.

Which app like DramaBox works on a computer?

DramaBox's own site is a catalog, not a player. ReelShort, NetShort and GoodShort all played episodes in a browser when we checked on October 6, 2026, and DramaWave has a browser player at m.mydramawave.com. FlickReels' website plays the first episodes, then sends you to the app. TotalShort does not play in a browser.

Can I move my DramaBox coins or subscription to another app?

No. Coins and memberships stay inside the app that sold them. If you switch, cancel DramaBox first in Apple or Google settings, because deleting the app does not stop a subscription. Our cancellation guide has the steps for both phones. Unused DramaBox coins don't carry over either, so spend them on a series you want to finish before you leave, and check the Subscriptions list a few days later to confirm nothing renewed.
