FreeReels review: really free, Android only, and what to watch for
Short answer
FreeReels is a legitimate Android short drama app from SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD., the publisher of DramaWave. On Google Play (US) it has 4.7 stars from 1.96 million reviews and more than 100 million downloads, and it's rated Teen. Its description promises 70,000+ dramas, "always free to access", with no subscriptions. Ads pay for that: the listing carries a "Contains ads" label, plus in-app purchases from $0.99 to $119.99 per item. FreeReels isn't on the App Store; on iPhone the same publisher offers DramaReels.

FreeReels verdict in brief
FreeReels is one of the most-installed short drama apps on Android, and it really does lead with a free offer: its own description says "always free to access" with "no subscriptions, no limits." The trade is advertising. The listing is labeled "Contains ads", and ads are the most common complaint in its reviews.
It also lists in-app purchases from $0.99 to $119.99 per item without saying what they unlock. None of that makes it shady. It means you should expect ads, protect your account against accidental taps, and not look for it on an iPhone, because it isn't there.
Who makes FreeReels, and what the listing shows
FreeReels presents itself as a place to discover "70,000+ popular short dramas" in more than 19 languages, covering US dramas, K-dramas, historical stories, revenge and CEO romance, with new releases daily and recommendations based on what you watch [1].
| Fact | FreeReels |
|---|---|
| Publisher | SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. (also publishes DramaWave) |
| Google Play rating (US) | 4.7 out of 5, 1.96 million reviews |
| Downloads | 100 million+ |
| Content rating | Teen, "Diverse Content: Discretion Advised" |
| Languages | 19+, per the description |

| Labels | Contains ads, In-app purchases |
| Released | November 28, 2024 |
| Read on | October 6, 2026 (Google Play US) |
When we read the listing, Google Play ranked it number 4 among top free entertainment apps [1]. That measures installs, not quality. It's the same company as DramaWave, which runs a paid weekly VIP model instead.
How much FreeReels costs
The headline price is zero. The listing still shows a purchase range, read October 6, 2026 [1]. Prices change by country and over time; the Google Play payment sheet is what counts.
| What the US listing shows | Detail |
|---|---|
| Download | Free |
| Subscriptions | None, per the description ("no subscriptions") |
| In-app purchases | $0.99 to $119.99 per item |
| What purchases unlock | Not stated |
| Advertising | "Contains ads" label |
"No subscriptions" and items up to $119.99 are both on the same page, and both can be true. The listing just doesn't say what you'd be buying. If you're curious about how in-app currencies usually work, our coins explainer covers the basics.
Example calculation (hypothetical purchases, not a FreeReels price list)
The point of this example is scale, since the listing gives only a range:
- Buying the cheapest $0.99 item once a week for a year: 52 × $0.99 = $51.48
- Buying the most expensive item once: $119.99
A single tap on the top item costs more than twice a full year of weekly small purchases. That is why purchase verification on Google Play is worth switching on before you start watching.
What's free on FreeReels
According to the developer, everything you watch is free to access [1]. Reviewers who like the app agree that you can get through whole series without paying. The price is your attention: expect ads around episodes. Reviews are users' accounts rather than the developer's terms, but this complaint comes up more than any other.
If you're comparing apps that lean on free viewing, our list of free short drama apps and the Android app roundup put FreeReels in context.
Is FreeReels legit and safe?
It's a real app with a named publisher, an enormous install base and Google Play billing [1]. "Pte. Ltd." is the legal form for a private limited company in Singapore. The listing gives free-reels.com as its website and a Gmail address as its contact email.
The developer's data safety declaration on Google Play says no data is shared with third parties. The app may collect location, personal info and three other data types; data is encrypted in transit; and you can request deletion [1]. Google notes that developers provide and can update this information.
The main safety risk sits outside the store. Searches for FreeReels turn up APK download sites, and an APK from outside Google Play skips Google's checks and may be modified. Install only from Google Play. Our safety guide has a fuller checklist.
On iPhone: DramaReels, and a lookalike to avoid
An App Store search in the US and Italy on October 6, 2026 returned no FreeReels [2]. The same publisher's iPhone app is DramaReels, listed by SKYWORK AI PTE LTD with 4.9 stars from about 38,900 US ratings and a 13+ rating [2]. The same search also returned "FreeDrama - Dramas & Reels" from a different developer, Shenzhen Da Hua Tong Information Technology, with no ratings and a 16+ rating [2]. Read the publisher line before installing. DramaReels sets its own prices and free episodes; we haven't checked them.
How to cancel FreeReels purchases
iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel Subscription.
Android
- Open Google Play and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Pick the app, then Cancel subscription.
Deleting the app does not cancel anything. If you paid on the app's website, cancel on that website.
Notes specific to FreeReels:
- There may be nothing to cancel. The description says no subscriptions, and one-off purchases don't renew. If you see something in your Google Play subscriptions list anyway, cancel it there.
- Refunds go to Google Play. Google explains the options on its subscription help page.
- DramaReels is billed by Apple. Anything bought in the iPhone app is canceled in iPhone Settings, not Google Play.
Our cancellation guide walks through every case.
Who FreeReels suits
- Ad-tolerant Android users. It's exactly the deal on offer: no subscription, with ads.
- Viewers who want breadth. A claimed 70,000-plus titles across many languages and genres.
- Not iPhone users. Look at DramaReels instead, and check its own listing.
- Families. Rated Teen with "Diverse Content: Discretion Advised"; Family Link approvals are worth setting up, as Google describes on its parental controls page.
FreeReels vs TotalShort
TotalShort is our app, so read this with that in mind. Both are Android apps today, which makes this an unusually direct comparison.
| FreeReels | TotalShort | |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog | 70,000+ dramas, per description | 6 Italian-set series |
| Free model | Free to access, with ads | First 8 episodes of every series, plus 1 a day per series |
| How it's made | Not stated on the listing | AI-made, labeled "AI series" |
| Platforms | Android only | Android only; iPhone version coming soon |
| Ratings | 4.7 from 1.96 million (Google Play US) | Too new for a public rating |
| Account | Not stated | No sign-up; you start as a guest |
TotalShort's prices are in euros. Past the free episodes, an episode costs 30 coins (€0.30), so finishing a 12-episode series costs 120 coins (€1.20). VIP is €5.99 a week or €59.99 a year, billed by Google Play, coins never expire, and nothing unlocks without your confirmation.
The honest picture: FreeReels' catalog dwarfs TotalShort's six series, and it has a long track record where TotalShort has no ratings yet. TotalShort's series are AI-made with Italian audio and subtitles in 13 languages. If free-with-ads across a huge library suits you, FreeReels is the obvious pick. If you want Italian stories with a fixed per-episode price, get TotalShort on Google Play. Our ranking explains the order.
Frequently asked questions
Is FreeReels really free?
Its description says "always free to access" with no subscriptions and no limits, and reviewers say you can watch full series without paying. The cost is advertising: the listing carries a "Contains ads" label, and ads are the top complaint in reviews. The listing also shows optional in-app purchases from $0.99 to $119.99 per item, without saying what they unlock.
Is FreeReels on iPhone?
No. An App Store search in the US and Italy on October 6, 2026 found no FreeReels. The same publisher, SKYWORK AI, offers DramaReels on iPhone, rated 4.9 from about 38,900 US ratings and 13+. Don't confuse it with "FreeDrama - Dramas & Reels", which comes from a different developer. Check the publisher name on the store page.
Is FreeReels safe?
From Google Play, yes: it's a real app from a named publisher with more than 100 million downloads. Its data safety declaration says no data is shared with third parties, that it may collect location and personal info, and that you can request deletion. The real risk is installing an APK from a download site, which bypasses Google's checks. Stick to the official listing.
Who owns FreeReels?
The publisher on Google Play is SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD., a Singapore private limited company by its legal form. The same company publishes DramaWave and, on iPhone, DramaReels. The listing names free-reels.com as the website and a Gmail address for contact. Purchases go through Google Play, which is where you cancel and request refunds.
Why does FreeReels show so many ads?
Ads are how it pays for free access. The listing is labeled "Contains ads", and reviewers often say there are a lot of them around episodes. The listing doesn't say whether any purchase removes ads, so don't buy something on that hope; read the item description on Google Play's sheet first. If ads bother you more than paying would, a paid app may suit you better.
Is FreeReels the same as DramaWave?
No, but they share a publisher, SKYWORK AI PTE. LTD. FreeReels presents itself as free with ads, while DramaWave sells a weekly VIP on the App Store. Same company, different business models. Compare them on what you'd actually pay, or how many ads you'd sit through, for the series you care about, and check the publisher name on each listing.
How do I cancel something I bought in FreeReels?
Purchases are handled by Google Play. Open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel there if anything appears. One-off purchases don't renew, so there's nothing to cancel for those; refund requests go to Google Play. Deleting the app cancels nothing. For DramaReels on iPhone, cancel in Settings, your name, Subscriptions.
